Last year’s trim levels have been replaced by a new lineup, with the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model now offered as a separate trim. The infotainment system has been upgraded to the new Sync 4, which offers over-the-air updates and a larger available 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. All models are equipped with an 8.0-inch digital gauge display, with an available upgrade to a 12.3-inch display on some trims. The ST-Line now has sportier styling.
The 2023 Ford Escape is available in seven trim levels: Base, Active, PHEV, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, and Platinum. Four powertrains are on offer, including hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. The Base, Active, and ST-Line trims are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque, teamed to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.
The ST-Line Select and higher trims are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 250 hp and 280 lb-ft, also mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard.
The ST-Line and higher trims are also offered as hybrid models, utilizing a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system that generates a total of 200 hp and 155 lb-ft, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The ST-Line and Platinum trims get standard front-wheel drive and available all-wheel drive. The ST-Line Select and ST-Line Elite trims get standard all-wheel drive.

The Escape PHEV trim features a plug-in hybrid engine that combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a total output of 210 horsepower, mated to the CVT. The PHEV is front-wheel drive only and has an all-electric range of 37 miles. The battery can be recharged in 3.5 hours using a Level 2 charger. Charging the PHEV with a 110-volt household outlet household takes about three times longer.
